Not to toot my own horn, but I’m pretty awesome. I’m funny and I have awesome hair and I cook good food and I tell really terrible jokes (and really long stories) and I’m raising good humans and I share my marshmallows with basically anyone in a block radius of my house (or if I know your name, honestly. I like sharing.).
I talk a big game sometimes, but to be perfectly honest: there are times when I doubt my own awesome.
Every time I start to go “dark” like this, I think of the story of the good wolf and the bad wolf.
According to my extensive Google search, this story is an old Cherokee tale:
One evening, an old Cherokee man sat beside a fire with his grandson. The grandfather spoke about a battle that rages on inside people.
He said, ‘Grandson, the battle inside us all is between two ‘wolves’.
One wolf is evil. It is comparison, inferiority, lies, false pride, anger, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, envy, guilt, resentment, and ego.
The other is good. It is humility, kindness, benevolence, joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.’
The grandson pondered this for a moment and asked his grandfather: ‘Which wolf will win?’
The old Cherokee replied, ‘The one you feed.’
I’ve been sneaking morsels to the bad wolf lately. Allowing the jealousy and the panic and the anxiety to grow and flourish and curl up on my bed at my feet every night to keep me awake.
I’ve been working on a pretty big dream of mine, trying to lay groundwork to move in a forward direction. To actually step more fully into my awesome.
And something inside of me is freaking out about it.
“BUT WHAT IF THEY HATE YOU? Everyone else has already talked about what I want to bring to the blog. It’s been done a thousand times. I am not awesome enough to move confidently in the direction of my dreams.
- No One Right Way To Self Care (take care of yourself how you need)
- 5 Ways to Self Care When You’re Angry (You still need to care for yourself when you’re peeved)
- My friend Autumn did 10 days of Self Care -highly recommend.
- She also did a list of 3 Self Care Acts You Can Do Now (get your care on!)
- This song by Macklemore makes me cry literally evry time. I can’t even sing the chorus without choking up.
I also made a playlist for my “You Can Do It” moments! It’s a mishmash of Beatles and Kesha and Macklemore and some Queen thrown in there for good measure.
Give it a listen – let me know if you’ve got a song to add.
Go feed your good wolf <3
