My name is Libby, and I am an enthusiastic creator. I am big. I am colorful. I am kinda loud. And I have a lot of interests.
My mission in life is to learn how to make and do everything, and then help others learn too. I love people, I love learning, I love creating and I love sharing and teaching, so this blog is all about my enthusiastic and colorful journey to create a manageable and awesome life.
I have gone around and around in circles on this blog, trying to shove myself into boxes. When it all boils down, I have come to this conclusion: I am a realistic lifestyle blogger.
I absolutely adore perfectly curated Instagram-worthy moments, and sometimes you’ll see those here. I *REALLY* love food, so you’ll see a lot of posts about that here (and here in my Enthusiastic Eaters Club Facebook group). I love a good flat lay, and you’ll see those here too. I love crafting and cooking and gardening and I also really really love my Netflix and Hulu (and all that will get shared here as well).
But you’ll also see my struggles. I’ll pull the curtain back (just a little) on my single mom life, and how I make everything happen. You’ll see pieces of my creative mind and fun schedule, but I’ll also talk a little about how I struggle to keep it together sometimes.
I want to support those women who aren’t quite to the point of living a Pinterest-y life. Those who sometimes feel like not enough, or just too much. I want to give y’all tips on how to sometimes be awesome, and reassure you that it’s ok to not be awesome sometimes too.
Y’all, I’ve been through some STUFF and I want to show you there’s another side to the dark things you might be going through and help encourage you to take hold of your life and make it the best life you can.
What you will see here on MiaCupcake.com:
- Creating (painting, bible journaling, knitting, clay figures, etc)
- Single Mom Life (coparenting, juggling schedules, encouragement)
- Food (meal planning, recipes, techniques, kitchen disasters, probably a lot of cake)
- Travel (itineraries, tips, tricks)
- Self-Help (resources, things I’ve tried, stories about all the stuff I’ve broken trying to “find myself”)
- Entertainment (movies, books I love, my obsession with Netflix and Hulu)
Why do you call yourself Mia Cupcake? It has to do with roller derby and a breakup. Check out this post to find out why!
What’s life like at home? I am a single mom of two kids, who are amazing and outstanding. My small child hardly ever makes it to the internet (on purpose), but they are brilliant and awesome. My eldest is called “Wolfgang”, and he gets veto power on when I share him on the internet. He’s finishing up high school to graduate this year and he is so busy with AP classes and band and theatre and a job and eleventy million other things, I can SOMETIMES catch him long enough to get a photo.
I love Jesus, food, Disney, thrift shopping, cross stitch and knitting, Star Wars, anything having to do with Thor, the television show Supernatural, and traveling with my turquoise leopard print suitcase.
I believe that color, chaos and cooking can right a lot of wrongs.
I believe that a waiter who does not balk when I order a blue steak is the sign of an excellent restaurant, and 2 fingers of good whisky (neat, of course) is the perfect accompaniment to a blue steak.
I believe that pen and paper is one of the best ways to express yourself, and I do love a good rollerball pen with a fresh notebook.
I laugh really loud and I’m not ashamed of that. I love my tribe of people and bend over backwards to help whenever I can.
I made bread. . And it actually looks and tastes like bread. . I try really hard to post on Tuesdays and Thursdays around noon PST here on the blog (though honestly, sometimes life gets in the way), and I uploaded a new vlog to my YouTube channel every night for all of 2017.
My Instagram is full of photos of my daily life. Sometimes that’s wild and crazy and sometimes it’s just me dragging my laptop out onto our back deck to get a little vitamin D and taking photos of my gorgeous gardens or whatever I’m making in my kitchen.
My Pinterest is kind of a peek inside my brain. You’ll see gory horror special effects makeup, and frilly birthday cakes. Gorgeous ball gowns and all things Disney. Motivational quotes and a whole board on being a Boss Chick.
My YouTube channel contains the vlog from every day in 2017, kind of a misguided quest to be more awesome (turned out to be a lot of videos of me sounding a little preachy!). I also post unboxing videos, the occasional video of Wolfgang doing something amazing and brilliant and a few makeup application videos.
